Mwanga II, son of Ssekabaka Muteesa I, became Kabaka in 1884. His reign is most remembered for the execution of the Uganda Martyrs between 1885 and 1887, and for his later resistance to growing British colonial control over Buganda. Deposed briefly in 1888 and restored in 1889, he continued to resist encroachment on the kingdom's independence until he was ultimately exiled to the Seychelles, where he died in 1903. He was later laid to rest at the Kasubi Tombs alongside his father.
